I'm hoping the videos and images from the two most interesting talks of the AM, from George Dyson and Danny Hillis end up on the Web, as they were much of the experience. Dyson gave a fun and insightful history of Von Neumann's work at the Institute for Advanced Studies (where he and Esther grew up), with numerous contemporary exhibits culled from the Institute's file. A valuable service when so much of the work before the 'Web event horizon' seems to be forgotten. (Update: Cory's realtime notes.)
Hillis' most interesting bit was a video of a demostration he gave at a recent ESRI conference of his team's work on dynamic maps. Unlike the tape of Doug Engelbart's 1968 demonstration - of which it was (deliberately?) reminiscent - this one had an audience soundtrack. Try to imagine hundreds of cartographers in simultaneous orgasm...
A lot of the material blipped by too fast to yield a response. I've got some names and keywords from various labs to chase down later. Tim O'Reilly blurred through parts of his annual 'Radar' talk. I'm pretty sure I something bogus re revenue models go by, but there wasn't time enough to capture it for rebuttal. Hopefully the slides will be posted. Either I'm slowing down (quite possible), or a little more selectivity and pacing would be useful.
