Summer Is In The Air

The left image was taken yesterday afternoon, during a pleasant stroll north of the Berkeley marina. Those are octopus kites, and no, I'm not messing with the scale. They are at the same distance as the people, and are so large that their dual tethers are attached to steel stakes. Golden Gate, Marin Headlands and Angel Island are in the background.

The right photo was taken a few days back in Ba'Qubah, Iraq, showing some of the pleasures of May Day there. So while we're enjoying the beginning of the catchin'-rays season, it's also a good time to remember those who are in harm's way on our behalf. It's not just IEDs that they brave.
