If you've been following along for a while, back in February I posted a photo of an amazing old growth redwood discovered in the Santa Cruz mountains. Now here it is again
(click for big image), with the addition of a crew of intrepid trail builders who reached it yesterday after an epic battle with undergrowth and a landslide covering the old logging road we are reopening. The scale speaks for itself. We still have a quarter mile or so of trail to reopen, and need to build a couple of small bridges to span seasonal creeks, but it's passible with one short scramble even so. For safety reasons, the trail won't be publicly opened until those tasks are complete, but for those who know the territory, I will give two clues: It is in the Gazos Creek drainage, and can be reached from Butano Park.
